“Well, hello there! I’m Glynis Longhurst, and I’m thrilled that you’ve found me!”​My aim is to provide the highest standard of practice.  I encourage my clients to make positive changes to their lives by improving their health both physically and mentally, to help them cope better today, and provide a positive and healthy future. My specialty is  Exercise prescription for metabolic conditions and Alternative therapy, ​My formal training includes a Ph.D. in Adapted Physical Activity.  In addition to being an Accredited Exercise Physiologist, I am a Registered Exercise Specialist Practitioner, and a Certified Energy Healer, Accredited with Acupressure for Physical, Mental and Emotional Health.

Initially, you will meet with me for a consultation and exercise testing. Following this, each individual is prescribed an exercise regime suitable to their state of health, managed and monitored throughout to ensure constant progress at the appropriate level.

The desired outcome is to achieve independence and confidence to maintain levels of fitness and changes in lifestyle that have beneficial health effects.

Clients will be coached through their specific rehabilitation program, and have modifications made to the program as appropriate.

  Specialized Individualized Exercise

 

The individualized exercise programme emphasizes the response to exercise with heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen saturation monitoring before, during and after exercise .This programme is designed for people with a diagnosed metabolic medical condition needing additional support and encouragement to be active. The programme offers enjoyable, social and achievable exercise sessions that focus upon resistance and cardiovascular training at a light and manageable pace.

                                              WHAT TO EXPECT

Step 1: Pre-exercise screening consult and risk stratification (PAR-Q)

Screening is done to ensure the exercise program is safe for an individual to partake in. Screening includes procedures such as health history questionnaires, anthropometric measurements. The  interview consultation and questions can help raise a client's awareness about how their body might respond to exercise. The purpose of the PAR-Q, therefore, is to determine whether a client should have a complete medical evaluation before participating in vigorous or strenuous exercise. The PAR-Q is entirely subjective and based only on the information a client provides as opposed to objective measurements like height, weight, or age.

Step 2: Functional assessment
Functional assessment measures an individual’s level of function and ability to perform specific tasks on a safe and dependable basis over a defined period,

Step 3: Exercise Prescription
An exercise prescription is an exercise plan that is designed to improve physical fitness and increase health by reducing risk factors for chronic disease. The prescription outlines what types of exercises and how much exercise the individual should do each day or week in order to reach specific health and fitness goals. The exercise plan may also include behavior modification to ensure long-term compliance to obtain the specific goals.

Exercise prescriptions have numerous health benefits for individuals, including reduced incidence and risk of certain conditions such as:

  • heart disease

  • obesity

  • hypertension

  • diabetes mellitus

  • osteoarthritis

  • dementia

  • depression

  • asthma

What does the name "Meridian Biokinetics" mean?

Meridian

Simply put, a meridian is an 'energy highway' in the human body. Meridians can be mapped throughout the body; they flow within the body and not on the surface, meridians exist in corresponding pairs and each meridian has many acupressure points along its path

Biokinetics

Bio" means "Life", and "Kinetics" means "Energy", or "Movement" so "Biokinetics" is a system for restoring and maintaining life energy so the body can function normally and be healthy naturally. Biokinetics works by stimulating and restoring the energy flow, or communication between all parts of the body. Through the use of acupressure the  body's  meridians pathways are massaged to  heal or increase the flow of energy ..
